Wertz’s Works of Wood was formally created May 13, 1995. Initially I did the craft show circuit but now I exclusively build custom and commissioned pieces. Functional and aesthetically pleasing pieces is what I try to attain, utilizing “up cycled” material where I can.

Born and raised in the small (pop. 262) Pennsylvania town of Mann’s Choice and since 2005 I have lived in sunny Florida. I gravitated toward making things at an early age and using wood as the medium was a natural progression due to its abundance in the Pennsylvania forests. My passion is to take material that is destined for the landfill and to turn it into an heirloom that can be handed down for generations to come.

My first priority is to utilize materials that are available, be it new stock or previously utilized materials. Most of this "new" stock has come from the family farm. In my custom orders, I use what the clients request. If you are unsure of what might work best, I will make suggestions both in design and materials. My goal is to balance form and function while giving you everything you requested. Next comes the construction phase where I use both hand tools and machinery. I use techniques that will ensure your furniture will last generations. The final step is the finishing process which can range from my special oil/wax finish to the more durable conversion lacquer finish depending on the project. Now the best part comes when you receive your finished piece and can look forward to many years of enjoyment!
